Home >> How the tyre inserts work

A tyre pressure guage, fitted to the vehicles dashboard will give the driver information as the tyre deflates.  The driver can then adjust their speed of travel according to the Runflat recommendations.  These recommendations will vary depending on the type of vehicle, the tyre and driving conditions.

If a vehicle suffers a puncture, as the tyre deflates the Runflat insert will prevent total deflation and allow the vehicle to continue its journey at speeds of up to 80km/hr for distances of up to 50km. The speed and distance of travel will vary depending on the tyres and operating conditions. The Runflat system may be modified to cope with greater distances provided the customer specifies the type of vehicle and likely driving conditions.

The Runflat Tyre Support Insert is made from an anti-ballistic material developed by Westley Plastics, specialists in plastics technology. The material is of high impact plastic and the system's locking mechanism ensures that the inner unit is solid.  Unlike other Runflat systems, there are no gaps that could leave the deflated tyre vulnerable to damage.
